Gem Farms: A Connection to Nature & Animals

At The Garnet House, our Agricultural-Based Resident Program is at the heart of what makes our community unique. By participating in this hands-on program, residents contribute to the upkeep and success of our farm, helping us keep costs down while fostering a shared sense of purpose and connection to the land.

What Residents Can Expect at Gem Farms:

Residents have the opportunity to engage in a variety of meaningful activities that support both our farm and community, including:

  • Animal Care: Help tend to our friendly farm animals, including ducks, chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, and goats. Caring for the animals is a rewarding experience that adds a special rhythm to daily life.

  • Gardening and Crop Maintenance: Work alongside fellow residents in our vegetable garden, planting, weeding, and harvesting fresh produce that supplies our farm stand and supports our farm-to-table initiatives.

  • Farm Stand Operations: Assist with preparing and stocking our Gem Farms farm stand, where we offer seasonal produce and handmade goods to the local community.

This program not only helps us provide a more affordable living environment, but it also fosters a strong community bond and offers residents a chance to learn new skills, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors.

The Agricultural-Based Resident Program embodies our values of sustainability, community, and shared purpose. By contributing to the daily life of the farm, residents help create a place that feels like home.

Hands-On Learning & Creative Skills

At The Garnet House, we believe in learning through doing. That’s why we offer a variety of activities for residents to discover new skills, express their creativity, and enjoy shared experiences:

  • Soap Making: Discover the art of crafting handmade soaps using natural ingredients. Residents can create custom scents and designs, and the soaps can even be sold at the Gem Farms farm stand, allowing you to contribute to the community while learning a fun and rewarding skill.

  • Baking and Cooking: Join your fellow residents in our communal kitchen for baking and cooking sessions, where we create delicious homemade breads, pastries, and meals. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or just starting out, it’s a great way to learn new recipes and share good food with the community.

  • Skill-Sharing and Community Projects: At The Garnet House, we believe in learning from each other. Residents can participate in skill-sharing activities, where anyone can teach and learn—from gardening tips to creative projects like crafting or upcycling. You might find yourself collaborating on a new community project or lending a hand in a shared goal that brings everyone together.
